At only three years old, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn began her journey on the slopes. Raised in Burnsville, Minnesota, Vonn was taught how to ski by her grandfather. Her father, Alan Kildow, was a ski instructor who helped her throughout her racing journey. Vonn attended a prestigious development program at Buck Hill, which played a major part in her skill during her junior ski competitions.
Vonn experienced one of her first and most major injuries just nine days before the 2006 Winter Olympics. She suffered from a torn ACL during a crash while training. Vonn underwent orthopedic surgery, but was able to return to competing in the Olympics shortly after.
Recently, Vonn experienced a fracture in her tibia occurring during a downhill skiing event at the 2026 Winter Olympics. This came just after she experienced a ruptured ACL just nine days before competing in the Olympics. After waiting for almost 13 minutes after her crash, Vonn had to be airlifted from the course. However, this injury is just one of many leg injuries Vonn has sustained throughout her skiing career. Nevertheless, the injury still has many people concerned about her career moving forward, including her own family.
“There will be no more ski races for Lindsey Vonn as long as I have anything to say about it.” Vonn’s father, Alan Kidrow, said.
Although fans of Vonn are divided on whether or not the Olympian should continue skiing after this incident, it’s clear that Vonn is doing everything in her power to get back on the slopes.
