Jim Carrey’s appearance at the Cesar Awards has catalyzed multiple conspiracy theories insisting that he was replaced by a clone or body double.
“There is no way that is him,” self-promoted “Jim Carrey Fanatic” Tanay Bharadwaj said.
These declarations emerged from TikTok and X, scrutinizing Carrey’s appearance at the awards ceremony. According to multiple comments and posts, he appeared with a shaved face, long hair, and different facial features, including fuller cheeks and tighter eyelids.
“I mean, he may have just gotten plastic surgery, but his looks make him seem like a completely different person,” freshman Amyra Patel said.
Along with a change in his demeanor, fans note how Carrey had once famously stated that he was retiring “for good”. In fact, Carrey’s announcement seems to have been a paramount factor in the conspiracy theories that it triggered.
“If I ever come back out from retirement, then it ain’t me,” Carrey had said.
Social media claims were further fueled by makeup artist Alexis Stone, who posted a photo of a prosthetic mask that resembled Carrey.
“The person you saw at the Caesar Awards that night was me, but I was personally hired by Jim Carrey to play him,” Stone said.
Award delegate Gregory Caulier attempted to shut down any rumors, professing that the presence of Carrey’s family and his emotional speech given in French served as proof that it was the “real him.”
“It’s a non-issue,” Caulier said. “It was the real Jim Carrey. He was there with Jane, his daughter, his grandson Jackson, and his companion Min Ah. There were 12 other people, including his family and his longtime publicist.”
Regardless of any evidence, fans still enjoy indulging in the aspects of clones and body doubles for Carrey. As for Carrey himself, he hasn’t addressed any rumors and is mainly keeping to his own quiet retirement.
“I have enough,” Carrey said. “I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
