Do you have a date for Valentine’s Day? If you don’t, you’re not alone. Women of all ages who don’t have a special someone often celebrate Galentine’s Day, a day for single women to celebrate friendship and each other, instead of romantic love that is also held on February 13th.
Galentine’s Day has recently come to light with the idea and influence of social media, stemming from the show Parks and Recreation.
“I first heard about Galentines a couple of years ago when I saw people celebrating it online,” freshman Natasha Arrakal said.
Some activities involved in a Galentines party would be fun activities like crafting, gift exchanging, potlucks, brunches, and spa days.
“I had a Galentines Day party last year, and we all had a big dessert potluck at the park. It was really fun hanging out with my friends,” freshman Grace Griffiths said.
The main theme and message of Galentines is to celebrate and appreciate the ladies in your life, specifically your friends, quote unquote “ladies celebrating ladies.”
“One thing I’m grateful about my friends is that they are always here for me, and when I’m with them, I’m always laughing,” senior Patience Fox said.
Galentines is a day to take your mind off of relationships and take a day to focus on yourself, empowerment, and bring out the best in female friendships.
“I definitely prefer spending Galentines with my friends than crying in my bed about being single,” junior Anahi Sanchez.
