The number of bodies being found in the Houston Bayou is increasing. From the start of 2026, one body has already been found. As a result, the locals of Houston are coming to the resolution that there is a serial killer loose in Houston. However, Houston Mayor John Whitmire said, “There is no evidence.”
Through the year 2025, the total number of bodies found in the Bayous reached 35. The autopsies of 31 bodies done by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office stated that the causes of death have ranged from drug-related drownings to blunt-force trauma.
The Bayou bodies started appearing or being found in 2017, with the number being 20 bodies found. Each year, more bodies were being found, until there were nearly 200 cases discovered between 2017 and 2025. These cases range from drownings to foul play.
Many of the cases could be the result of Houston’s homeless population. In early 2025, the population consisted of around 3,300 to 3,325, with many of them having drug addictions. The homeless population is made up of many who have problems with substance use, which leads to overdosing.
Not to mention, there are also other important factors to be wary of. For example, mental health is a huge factor. If someone is not in the right frame of mind and loaded on drugs, and they are in the right place, say, one of the Bayous. It would become a burial home for many souls.
Even though Houston Locals are saying there is a serial killer, there is no proof. The bodies found in the Bayous have many different causes of death, including drowning and even murder, but the M.O. is not the same. This explains that there is not a serial killer but a more pressing matter at hand. The Bayous are places where death happens, and it’s time to put something in place to help stop the death count from rising.
