Every year at the beginning of February, millions of families and friends gather around to watch one game of Football. Whether you’re there for the football, food, halftime show, or even because someone forced you to, it is an event watched worldwide. So what makes it so popular?
Watchability
You don’t have to know the rules of Football to understand what’s good or bad. Although it definitely does help to follow, Football is relatively an easy sport to follow. It’s also very appealing to the average person. In baseball, the World Series is a best out of 7 series, and not everyone is going to want to sit through that many games. On the other hand, the Super Bowl is only one game. It’s much easier to tune in to one game and understand who’s winning or losing rather than in 7 games. It also brings that suspense; it’s a one-and-done deal. You only get one game to perform. Overall, football is easy to watch. The fast-paced gameplay makes room for a lot of action. Football brings excitement; there’s always a chance for a fight to break out with all the violence, chaos, and celebrations that make Football very easy and fun to watch.
Halftime Show
On February 9th, 2025, 133.5 million people watched as Kendrick Lamar performed at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. It became the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show in history. This all started in 1967 when the first ever Super Bowl was hosted, the halftime show was just a marching band from the University of Arizona and Grambling State University. This all changed in 1993 when the NFL had Michael Jackson perform the halftime show. After that, different famous artists performed in the halftime show every year. The halftime show has created a great reason for fans who don’t know much about football to watch the Super Bowl.
Memorability
Every year, the Super Bowl lands on a Sunday, and by tradition, it has become its own holiday. Superbowl Sunday is a day when family and friends gather and bring all types of good food and drinks. From hot dogs, burgers, chips, and a good Dr Pepper, Superbowl Sunday is a day that builds community. People make bets, predictions, and play games. These are some of the things that make Superbowl Sunday so memorable. Yet, you can’t forget about one of the most iconic parts of the Super Bowl. The commercials. This phenomenon all started in 1984 with Apple’s iconic commercial for the Macintosh personal computer. Since then, ads have become even more creative. Super Bowl ads are known for being funny, emotional, and for having cameos of celebrities.
In conclusion, the Super Bowl is popular because of its easy accessibility for anyone, the famous halftime shows, and the memorability that surrounds Super Bowl Sunday.
