NASA’s Apollo 11 mission became successful on July 20, 1969, sending astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin into space, making them the first humans to step foot on the moon. This fulfilled JFK’s goal of reaching the moon before the Soviet Union, making this historical moment most commonly known as “The Space Race.” The race was such an incredible feat that it was broadcasted live on televisions across nations. That being said, people are completely divided on whether the moon landing was real or if it was a fake Hollywood production.
“I believe the moon landing happened. It was a major event,” freshman Jocelyn Fox said. “I just feel like it is, my dad told me it could be true.”
Many people agree that the televised video of the Apollo 11 mission is enough proof for them. Some say that we did not have the technology to stage such a major historical event. Many are quick to argue that it’s absurd to question whether or not this so-called “big step for mankind” really happened.
“I think the moon landing is real because there’s video evidence and the same space shuttles are in museums,” sophomore Morgan McQueen said.
On the latter, it seems as though people that do not believe in the moon landing can provide many reasons as to why this event was staged. Some people say the footprints of the shoes from the astronauts don’t match up with the shoe prints on the moon. Another reason people don’t believe it is real is because of the way the flag was planted into the moon and the way it moves..
“If you look at the flag, you can see it’s completely still. I feel like because of the gravity on the moon, the flag should have been moving more,” sophomore Genesis Gomez said.
Regardless of your stance on the matter, it’s no debate, the moon landing is one of the most popular conspiracies to this day. Staged or not, these theories have been passed down through generations.
