Life gets busy and hectic. From sports and extracurricular activities, balancing all of that at once is like juggling ten things at once; it’s almost impossible to manage it all. So, when school makes way to give us a no homework night and no test day, that truly takes the weight of having to manage it all off the shoulders of someone who needs it.
No homework nights and no test days are honestly a perfect way to help students limit the extremes they push themselves to in order to keep up with their academic life as well as their life outside of school.
No homework nights automatically result in easier management. Students who have jobs, play sports or participate in other extracurriculars need time to get out of that school mindset and unwind to focus on the other important things and not worry about if they’ll turn in that homework assignment on time. They won’t have the pressure of if they will or won’t get it done.
Tying into homework, when students have to stay up late at night to study for that one test they dread having to do, they always end up spending countless hours studying on end just to have a pencil in their hand at midnight instead of getting the rest that they need and deserve to have. Getting sleep and the rest needed makes sure they can function at the fullest they can for their test.
Now, while this solution is a majority agreement mainly among students, this decision acts as a more positive helpful resolution. But, there is also the debate on the fact that homework is necessary to keep students organized and their brains adapting to new skills frequently. Without homework, they’d sit around spending their free time on things like different hobbies, outings, or just hanging out with friends in place of honing a certain skill over time.
While no homework nights are very beneficial for some, it’s possible it may not be for others. Ultimately, in the end it is the student’s choice on whether or not they indulge in homework on these no homework days. Or, they take the expected route, kick back and take a breather with a free day off.
No homework is a good solution to not overworking the people who already have other things outside of their academic life. No homework is something that is beneficial and should be more promoted around other schools because it really helps.
