Turkey day. The one day of the year where you can stuff your face full of delicious and scrumptious food like: apple pie, stuffing, turkey, ham, rolls, and more. There’s so much food that at the end, you end up feeling sick to your stomach because of the food you ate. But Thanksgiving is so much more than food. It’s about being grateful for the stuff you have. It’s about spending time with family and friends and enjoying each other’s company. Thanksgiving is living life to the fullest and happiness you can be.
Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday, it’s a reminder. When Thanksgiving comes around, you are reminded of all the things you have. You remember your bed, your pillows, and blankets. You remember your close friends and family that mean so much to you. It is a day to be grateful for all you have. To be thankful that you have someone to talk to, day after day. To be thankful for having a bed to sleep in and food to eat.
Thanksgiving can easily become overshadowed by Christmas and Black Friday. Macy’s Thanksgiving parade primarily has a lot to do with Christmas. It is supposed to kick off the holiday season with Christmas songs and a visit from old Saint Nick. However, it takes away the meaning of Thanksgiving. It is a fun parade to watch, with all the balloons and artists but it doesn’t show what Thanksgiving means.
The Thanksgiving meal lineup is amazing. You, of course, have the turkey, and some ham. There is also the classic mashed-potatoes, rolls, pudding, salad, you name it, but the best food is the desert. And the pies. So many pies. There’s apple, pecan, banana cream, pumpkin, even chocolate pie. There will never be a time where Thanksgiving doesn’t have pie. We also can’t forget about the soups. There are so many soups to choose from. Chicken noodle, creamy mushroom, and pumpkin soup. Sometimes mac and cheese if you’re lucky and the best part, the bowl is bread.
Thanksgiving is a time for feel-good moments with your family and friends. It’s a time to catch up and let the rest of the world melt away. Set up a board game or a card game. Let all your worries go and just relax and have fun. Play charades or truth or dare. There is even Two Truths and Lie. That is what Thanksgiving is about. Being grateful to have people to have fun with.
The fourth Thursday of November, is a time like no other. Food, games, family, and there might be some football. Thanksgiving is about being grateful for what you have. Having fun too is also very important. Eat all the food you want and don’t care about how you feel tomorrow. Stay in the present and have a Happy Thanksgiving day.
