Why watch tennis hungry when you can watch tennis and get 3 hot dogs for the price of a single dollar? On September 26th, the CP varsity tennis team hosted “Dollar Dog Day”, where you could buy 3 hotdogs for a single dollar. They played a tough tournament against Pearland Dawson, falling short with a 6-13 score.
After a tough 6-8 match varsity senior Riley Valencia, listens to music and tries to ease his mind so he can healthily think about what he did wrong and right.
“With a reset mind I can go into the next match knowing what I did wrong, and fix my mistakes so I can win the next match,” Valencia said. “In a close match, you beat your opponent not on the court, but in the mind”

Even when losing, the team supports each other. Teammates that aren’t playing watch their other teammates’ games and cheer for every point. Nick Cordon, one of the student managers, believes it’s always important to keep morale up and encourage teammates even when losing.
“As the manager it’s my role to be the loudest on the court,” Cordon said. “Always gotta be cheering for my teammates hyping them up.”

Varsity tennis competes in playoffs beginning on October 9th.
