The Women’s Advocacy Association (WAA) is a school-based group focused on bringing awareness to women’s issues and advocating for change. It provides a space for students to discuss important topics, form friendships, and work together to support causes that affect women locally and nationally
“This club allows a creative outlet outside of school activities. I get to make new friends while seeing old ones, all while snacking and discussing the change we can bring for women all around us,” treasurer Gretchen Wright said.
The WAA aims to create a safe and inclusive environment where students can collaborate on important issues like domestic violence, breast cancer awareness, and women’s rights. The club empowers its members to take action through fundraising, donation drives, and community service. One of its key events is the Domestic Violence Shelter Donation Drive, where members collect essential items like feminine products and clothing for local shelters. This project not only supports women in need but also educates students about the importance of helping those affected by violence. The WAA also raises money for breast cancer awareness and partners with other school organizations to address broader issues like suicide prevention and community well-being.
The WAA has had several events, including a Valentine Bundt Cake Fundraiser and another donation drive for domestic violence shelters. These activities aim to raise funds and awareness for causes that impact women in various ways. Through its efforts, the Women’s Advocacy Association has become a vital part of the school community, offering students a platform to make a meaningful impact on women’s issues and build lasting connections.
Leadership opportunities are available for members who want to help shape the future of the club, allowing students to build confidence and develop skills for advocating change. Monthly meetings, held in Room 2703, provide a welcoming space for students to discuss upcoming projects while enjoying snacks and conversation. Come check it out!
