On September 28, 2024, a delightful collaboration took place between the AP French class and the Cav Kids program. The AP French students spent second period engaging with the young Cav Kids in a series of fun activities designed to foster learning and interaction.
The period started off with different activities such as colors, spoons, Petanc, and songs. Some kids played a lively round of Spoons, where laughter and excitement filled the air as the kids practiced their counting skills. Petanque was another highlight, as the AP French students taught the younger ones this classic French game, promoting teamwork and friendly competition. To wrap up the day, the group gathered for a sing-along, where they enjoyed familiar songs like “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” and even learned a few in French, creating a joyful atmosphere filled with music.
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Emanuelly Carmo, a senior who shared her insights about participating in an activity with the CAV kids as part of her AP French class. Emanuelly explained that the group engaged in various activities, including Colors, Spoons, Petanque, and Song. She was part of the Colors group, where her role was to print the coloring sheets.
When asked about her experience, Emanuelly expressed her enjoyment: “It was a lot of fun, and it helped relieve the stress of being in an AP class by doing something different. Having the kids there was a fun experience, and seeing them enjoy French was nice.”
Emanuelly’s journey with the French language began in 8th grade, but she really started studying it in French 1. She noted, “Being in AP French has helped me reach a good level of French, and I can speak it now.” Through her reflections, Emanuelly highlighted the joy of sharing her passion for French with younger students, showcasing how language can bring people together.
This unique interaction not only allowed the AP French students to practice their language skills in a playful context but also brought smiles and memorable moments to the Cav Kids, fostering a sense of community within the school.
