FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applications are opening soon, so make sure you are applying for your chance at college funding. FASFA will be opening up on Dec. 1 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Students who are not U.S. citizens who have resided in Texas for 36 months can apply for the TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) which also opens on Dec. 1, but no one can complete both, it is either or.
Students should complete the FASFA as soon as possible to receive the most financial aid. The FASFA and TASFA must be on file for a student to be considered for merit-based aid at most universities.
The FASFA requires each student and their parents to make an account at their website in order to complete it. College Park College and Career Counselor Mrs. Mary Florian highly suggests making these needed accounts before the FASFA application opens and expects it to take around 30 minutes to complete. You can create a TASFA application after Dec. 1. However, FASFA account takes a few days to activate so it is crucial to complete before Dec. 1, so be sure to apply as quickly as possible.
Texas law requires all seniors to be informed about the availability of the FASFA. You can watch a quick video over this law on the Canvas course Cohort 2025 from an announcement made on Oct. 28. Seniors are required to present a screenshot to prove they have completed their FAFSA/TASFA or opt out of presenting this proof and is required from all seniors in the Spring 2025.
For questions about the FAFSA/TASFA, please view the short video under Cohort 2025 Announcements, or visit the College and Career Center.
