HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is dedicated to preparing students for careers in healthcare through hands-on experiences, leadership roles, and competitions. The organization provides opportunities for students to explore different healthcare fields while developing professional skills and building a network of future colleagues. Members must be enrolled in health science courses such as Medical Terminology, Principles of Health Science, or Anatomy and Physiology, ensuring a solid foundation in healthcare. HOSA also emphasizes community service, fostering compassion, teamwork, and responsibility, key qualities for success in the healthcare industry. The club features five officer positions: President, Secretary, Community Service Chair, Public Communications Chair, and Director in Training.
The 2024-2025 HOSA officer team includes: President Abby Wenson, Secretary Ysabel Bajoyo, Community Service Chair Heidi Winkler, Public Communications Chair Aden Kwon, and Director in Training David Uchime.
These roles are available to any member who has participated actively in HOSA throughout the year. The Director in Training position, in particular, is designed for underclassmen, allowing them to learn about leadership and organizational skills in a supportive environment before taking on more significant responsibilities.
HOSA plays a vital role in connecting its members with experienced healthcare professionals. By hosting guest speakers from diverse medical backgrounds, the club provides students with insights into various career paths and the realities of working in healthcare. These interactions not only broaden members’ knowledge but also help them build essential networking skills, fostering relationships that could benefit their future careers.
HOSA’s competitions allow students to showcase their knowledge and skills while exploring new healthcare topics. HOSA’s Public Communications Chair, explained, “The competitions helped as it gave me the chance to explore new topics that I would have not previously been exposed to, as well as express interest in the topics I do enjoy,” said Aden Kwon. In addition, guest speakers from various medical fields provide students with insights into potential career paths and help them build valuable networking skills. Through education, service, and leadership, HOSA empowers members to confidently pursue careers in healthcare.
