For eight hours each week, high school students pour their minds, bodies, and spirits into marching band. On Saturday, Sept. 28, they finally got to apply all they have learned during practices. On the field at Bands of America, 24 bands faced off in the Texas elements. For some members, it was their first contest of this kind, while others returned for their fourth consecutive year. Whether new to band, or a seasoned drum major, band contests unite people from all walks of life through a shared passion for music.
The Woodlands College Park Cavalier Marching Band scored 81.40/100, landing third place regionally behind Cy-Fair and The Woodlands High School. Bands are scored on music performance, visual performance, general musical effect, and general visual effect. Under the direction of Jeffery Gorring, Aaron Owens, Robert Savala, and Fernando Rodriguez, and with the hard work and dedication of the performers, the Cavalier Marching Band achieved a school record.
To support the Cavalier marching band, be sure to watch them at halftime or at their next contest, Lone Star Preview, at Woodforest Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 12.
