College Park has an abundance of resources, but one of the most useful is the College Park College and Career Center in room 1619. With Mrs. Florian working hard everyday to provide the students of CP with the best advice, the room is one to visit within your high school career.
“We are very serious in this college and career center about helping every single student to have a set and clear plan to follow after they graduate from highschool, no matter what that plan might look like,” Mrs. Florian said. “Whether that plan is going straight to work, whether that plan is going to trade school, or to the military, or to college, we want to help each student with their individual plan that fits them well.”
Mrs. Florian makes sure that the College Park College and Career Center can provide all you are looking for to gain insight on your next steps. This also includes events for parents to learn more on what the next step is.
“We have the Canvas course called Class of 2025, which is the College and Careers class. There are no assignments in it, but we use that as a means to get information out and instructions to students about all these things,” Mrs. Florian said. “Thursday, December 5, during all lunches there’s gonna be a mini college fair here at College Park where about 25 colleges will be represented, they’ll each have a table in our commons through all lunches and students can talk to them about their colleges and ambitions.”
There is more to come for College Park with events all students are welcome to attend. These events are set in place for students to know all they need to before jumping into college decisions.
“Monday, October 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the Lone Star Convention Center in Conroe there’s going to be a college night and they will have hundreds of colleges represented at that college night – military service branches, trade schools, everybody is invited. It’s particularly aimed at juniors and seniors but freshman and sophmores could learn alot there too. So that’s a big district wide college night, free of charge,” Mrs. Florian said. “My hope is to bring a fair here like we have a college fair at College Park, I’m working really had to figure out how to bring a trade school fair here to College Park for our students, and Workforce Solutions is an organization in our community who has lot and lots of connections and can help students find jobs or possibly acquire tuition to go to trade school.”
Mrs. Florian is well aware of the fact that not all kids may want to seek out college advice but instead seek career advice. College is not the only option after highschool and the College Park College and Career Center is put in place to help all students with their future plans.
“A lot of people want to go to work in jobs that do not require a college degree so in no way do we want to send out the message that the only way for you after graduation is college, that’s not true,” Mrs. Florian said. “Trade schools, certification programs, lead students into many many valuable careers that make great money and they need a trade certificate.”
The College Park College and Career Center is full of tools to help you succeed and willing to show you how to use them. All you have to do is make an appointment, you can email Mrs. Florian at [email protected] to figure out your next steps.
“It’s important that I get the message across that we’re the college and career center and we’re here to help all different students with their individual paths that fit them,” Mrs. Florian said.
