In a resounding display of articulacy, critical thinking, and persuasive prowess, the College Park High School Speech and Debate Team gained a victory at the UIL (University Interscholastic League) State Qualifier in Congress, securing their spot in the upcoming state championship. The team’s remarkable journey began at the regional championship, where they clinched the title and earned the right to represent their school at the prestigious state level.
The UIL State Qualifier in Congress, brought together the brightest minds in debate from across the region. Under the direction of their dedicated leader, Mr. Andrew Gibson the team showcased a depth of knowledge, articulate arguments, and the ability to think on their feet. The students engaged in thought-provoking discussions, offering insights and solutions that impressed both judges and spectators alike. When asked what advice would be relevant to those starting in speech and debate Gibson said, “Don’t stop, don’t give up, always do it.”
The team’s success at the UIL State Qualifier marks a significant achievement. This is the first time that College Park has qualified for the next level of competition, and their journey is just beginning. The speech and debate team are expanding and becoming a predominant key in school-life at College Park.
The team demonstrated their commitment to excellence, securing victories in various debate categories and showcasing their versatility in addressing diverse topics. The topics covered vary from anything from birds to laws and ideas about procreation.
As the Speech and Debate Team prepares for the state championship, the entire community rallies behind them. Eagerly and happily anticipating the outcome of their next chapter in the pursuit of academic and intellectual excellence. Come January 2024, all eyes will be on the team as they aim to make history and further solidify their standing as champions in the world of speech and debate.
