Every year, Read for a Better Life happens district wide. College Park (CP) sends students from different organizations to their feeder schools to promote reading to younger generations. Students from the football team, cheerleaders, the dance team, the drum line, baseball, and other clubs and honorary societies attend their own elementary and intermediate schools.
“Read for a Better Life promotes a culture of reading by calling to action all adults within the Conroe ISD community to devote at least 30 minutes a day to reading aloud to children of all ages,” District Librarian Melody Hiser said.
College Park students picked children’s books to read to younger students throughout the district. They additionally went to Ride Elementary, Hailey Elementary, Powell Elementary, Lamar Elementary, Wilkerson Intermediate, and Collins Intermediate. Reading to students is a gateway to success, and Conroe ISD’s goal is to educate students and members of the community through reading.
“My favorite part of Read for a Better Life is visiting our campuses and sharing books with our students. I love the excitement that students experience when connecting to a book and the discussion it encourages,” Hiser said.
