Summer Bucket List on a Budget

Dayan Rivera

As we know the weather is starting to feel warmer and the sun is getting even brighter, so summer is just around the corner.

Most people’s goals for the summer are to make as many memories as possible with the time given, and many of us are attempting to create those memories on a budget. Therefore, here’s a bucket list of things to accomplish before Summer is over!

Going on a picnic!

There are many public parks around The Woodlands free to anyone’s expense, such as North Shore Park.

A waterfront space with a playground, barbeque pits, and many free live events for the crowd to enjoy. Bring a picnic blanket, a friend, a basket full of your favorite snacks, and spend the day at the park under the sun while feeding ducks, and listening to live music.

Catch a movie

This summer a variety of movies are premiering, such as The Little Mermaid on May 26, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse, on June 2, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny premiering on June 23,  Barbie on July 23, and many more.

At Cinemark, if you purchase your tickets on a weekday rather than a weekend you’ll get tickets for a lower price. The movie theater also has its own app where you can catch deals on food and movie tickets.

Go Thrifting

Thrifting is a great place to find and add vintage gems to your closet, on a budget. These stores contain second-hand clothes and homegoods to sell, thrift stores usually raise funds for a charitable cause.

The Interfaith Hand Me Up Shop on Sawdust Rd is one of the best thrift stores in The Woodlands and it has many great vintage finds at very affordable prices. They sell gently used, quality clothing, boutique items, books, toys, houseware items, furniture and home décor in good condition at affordable prices. If you are interested in possibly donating items, donations are accepted Monday-Saturday from 10am-4pm at the front of the facility.

Make Ice Cream

A delicious treat perfect for the upcoming hot summer days. Learn how to make ice cream with friends as an exciting yet simple experience to remember. The easiest way to achieve quick and on a budget ice cream is to redo your physics class “DIY Ice Cream” experiment.

Start with a small resealable plastic bag and combine half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla. Push out excess air and seal. Then into a large resealable plastic bag combine ice and salt. Place the small bag inside the bigger bag and shake vigorously for 7-10 minutes, until ice cream has hardened. Finally open the bag, add your favorite toppings and enjoy!

There are only a couple of days left of the school year. If you haven’t, start studying for your final exams in order to fly through the last week and begin a summer full of memories.
