Swinging Into the Softball Season

Batter up, College Park! Grab a good helmet, slip on your favorite catching glove, and grab your sturdiest bat, Cavaliers, because the 2023 Softball Season is fast approaching.

Though the first game of the season isn’t until January 31st, the team was already preparing last semester by hosting an online auction for their booster club.

“We had various donors from around the community donate items to raise funds for us to go to tournaments, for equipment, things like that,” Head Coach Joseph Schulze said.

The program’s booster club is made up of parents and community members who wish to support the team.

“Their job is to promote our program, get our name out there in the community, and to raise funds to help support us,” Schulze said.

As of 2023, The Lady Cavalier Fast Pitch Softball Program has been around for 7 years. Despite the passing of time, the team’s goals remain consistent.

“My upcoming goal for this season is to make the playoffs,” varsity player Ava McCracken said.

“My goal is to go all out for my last season of high school, try to get to the playoffs,” varsity player Jessica Battiste said.

“The ultimate goal is to make the playoffs and move on,” Schulze said. “Our district is very difficult: four teams that made the playoffs last year went at least two-to-five rounds deep into playoffs, which is unheard of from one district. It’s very hard.”

Tryouts for all students were held on Saturday, January 14th, and the team was announced Tuesday, January 17th.

The first scrimmage of the season will be an away game against Klein Oak on Tuesday, January 31st.
