The varsity boys basketball team is playing their way through the 2023 season with a 20-5 overall record, and a 6-1 district record. The team is aiming to finish off the season strong with a run at districts.  

“I think everyone’s goal, not just mine, is to three-peat, which means securing three wins in a row, in our district. Since we are a new team, I think it is important to continue to bring home another district championship for the 3rd year, ” senior Jaden Spicer said.

 Last year, in the 2021-2022 season the team went far into the playoffs, and ended up first in district. In the 2022-2023 season, as of January 8th, 2023, the team is ranked first in the district. The team has played several competitors so far this year. The team defeated The Woodlands High School on Tuesday December 20th. They won the rivalry game in overtime finishing with a score of 69-64. 

“For a lot of us, it was our first time playing in a really big game like that. With that being said, we had to do more to get mentally prepared than physically. We just knew it would be a fight all the way until the end, so we had to keep our composure and put our heads into the game,” senior Khayden Pitre said.

The Varsity team traveled to San Diego the last week of winter break to play in The Holiday Classic Tournament. They ended the week with a 5th place finish in the Senators Division of the tournament, which included a total of 12 different teams. 

“San Diego was definitely a different experience. We finished strong with three wins and only one loss, but we learned from it. We all had a fun time and bonded as a team, which ultimately is going to improve our game,” Spicer said.

In an intense game on Saturday, January 7th, the Cavaliers defeated the Conroe Tigers with a score of 57-43. The varsity basketball season continues, with the next game being Saturday, January 14th against district opponent, Cleveland High School.

“We are just looking forward to beating The Woodlands for a second time this year, and hopefully going even deeper into the playoffs than CP has ever been before,” senior Ryan Veach said.
