Veterans day is a holiday that is recognized each year on Nov. 11th in the U.S to celebrate those in service. The choir is recognizing Veterans with the annual concert, “The Songs of Freedom,”, for the annual salute to Veterans and the U.S armed Forces on Nov. 10 from 6:30-9:00 PM in the auditorium. 

The concert commemorates those who have served and are still serving in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. The cavalier choir will perform and feature the kings and chamber choir from Knox Jr. High School. 

Before the performance, parents and students are strongly encouraged to come in earlier to walk the Hall of Honor presentation at 6:15 PM. 

The choir is performing the concert to honor the veteran family, friends, and teachers of students that have been in the Cavalier Choir over the years.

“This concert has been a part of the Cavalier Choir since the second year the school was open,” choir teacher Erine Bodhine said, “We have done it every year – including a video presentation during COVID – and it is one of the highlights of our program. “

The event will also include a variety of choral music and solo pieces, a yellow rose ceremony to honor active duty military, and concludes in a moving tribute to our veterans.

“Our choir students cherish the opportunity to honor the men and women who have served their country so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today,” Bodhine said.

Beyond the concert, there will be an event held by the district at Woodforest Bank Stadium on Nov. 11 at 10 o’clock to salute veterans. Veterans in attendance will receive a CISD JROTC challenge coin as a small token of appreciation for their services. 

Houston is also celebrating the holiday by providing the annual “Houston Salutes American Heroes Veterans Day Celebration”. The tribute takes place on Friday, Nov. 11, from 10:00-11:30 AM at Houston City Hall, free of charge. 

  Texas has the second largest population of veterans, so people acknowledge their services by holding events and having keynote speakers recognize local heroes. At 11 o’clock, on Friday, there will be a moment of silence in memory of the 102nd anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, which ended WWI.
