As football season nears its end, this means winter sports will be starting up soon.  College Park Boys Basketball’ season is soon approaching, and the players are preparing to take on the court.

“I really like how the team is looking right now. Everyone knows their role, and we are all able to work together well,” senior Khayden Pitre said.

Varsity and junior varsity have been practicing in order to prepare for their upcoming season since the summer. Although some players experienced injuries over the summer, everyone is back to 100% and ready to play.

“The players are working and challenging each other to be better on a daily basis,” varsity coach Mr. McNeely said.

Last year, the team went far into the playoffs, and ended up first in district. Pre-season rankings have put the 2022-23 College Park Boys Varsity Basketball Team at the 19th in the state. This ranking includes all of the 6A high schools in Texas. The Varsity has some goals they want to reach this season regarding their record and making playoffs.

“We are hoping to go undefeated in district again like last year. We also hope to make a deep run in the playoffs,” Pitre said.

The players also have set individual goals for the season to push themselves and better their skills.

“One of my goals this season is to “catch a body” (to dunk on an opponent) in a game. I’ve done it in practice, but I hope to actually put it on the court this year.” junior Landon White said.

The first game is Saturday, November 5th at College Park. The time is currently unannounced. Their first tournament of the season is the Alamo City Shoot-Out in San Antonio, November 11th-12th.

”This season I am looking forward to the opportunity to lead another group of young men in a sport that both student-athletes and coaches are passionate about. I am ready to compete and see what we can accomplish as a team,” McNeely said.
