Astros in the ALCS

And, just like that, the Houston Astros advance to the ALCS for the sixth time!
On Saturday night, the Astros played against the Seattle Mariners and beat them 1-0 in an 18 inning game, advancing them for the sixth straight year in a row to the American League Championship Series.
The Seattle Mariners gained their spot in the playoffs for the first time since 2001, so T-Mobile Park was packed. The game was an epic battle of the pitchers, both teams blazing through their bullpens as the score remained 0-0 until the 18th inning. The game began at 3 pm CDT and went on for a whopping six hours and 22 minutes.The game had 41 strikeouts and three extra-base hits until rookie Jeremy Peña hit a game winning and series clinching solo home run in the top of the 18th inning ending the Mariners season.
The starting pitcher for the Houston Astros was Lance McCullers and ultimately the Astros went through every pitcher on their roster, ending with the five final innings being pitched by Luis Garcia, normally a starting pitcher for the Astros. The game was intense, with Mariners fans even adopting the new tradition of placing a shoe on their head as a rally cap that worked for them in their wild-card series against the Blue Jays, but didn’t result in the same outcome for them against the Astros.
The ALCS will be the Astros versus either the New York Yankees or the Cleveland Guardians, who’s series is currently tied 2-2 and the deciding game is Monday at 6:07 pm CDT on PBS. The first game of the ALCS will be here in Houston on Wednesday at 6:37pm.
