The Importance of SPF

Eleanor Kelly

As we coast into warmer months it is important to remember to protect ourselves from the sun, whether you are tanning or just hanging around outside, the summer brings warmer and sunnier weather. We have all heard about the impact of not wearing sunscreen, wrinkles, skin cancer, and discoloration. That is why it is extremely important to start protecting ourselves now rather than later.

When buying sunscreen it is good to know what exactly you’re looking for, and making sure the SPF level is suitable for you. SPF is the measure of how much sunlight will cause a sunburn. Basically if you want complete protection from the sun, 50+ SPF is the best for that, if you are tanning sticking to an SPF below 30 is your best bet. Also, if you are in the sun for an extended period it is best to reapply sunscreen every two hours, no matter the SPF level.

Some of the best sunscreen to use is Sun Bum Sunscreen Lotion SPF 50, this lotion contains Vitamin E and repels the sun, click the link here to learn more . Another good brand to use is Supergoop, they have a reef-safe formula that promotes the preservation of coral reefs, click here to learn more. Another thing to keep in mind about sunscreen is that lotion provides better protection using lotion as a base layer is best followed by at spray sunscreen for maximum effectiveness.
