Soccer Season Wrap Up
April 1, 2022
Last Thursday the Varsity soccer boys took a devastating loss that caused their season to come to an end against the MacArthur Generals. The Cavaliers were at a loss for words that night having had a very close game, with back-to-back goals and last-second shots which ended the score at 3-2.
The boys also made it to playoffs last season, but unfortunately lost against the same team. Although it was a shock to them when they could not make it past the first round of playoffs because they had improved a lot in skill compared to last season’s result.
“I was honestly expecting a different result than what happened,” senior and Striker, Aj Vera said. “We could’ve played our own game with more confidence to keep the pressure off of us. If we cleaned up small mistakes and made it our own game, we would’ve won.”
Because the loss was very unexpected, a saddened emotion filled the stands and the field Thursday night with the realization that many of the seniors are leaving. The seniors tried to contain their tears but in the end, could not because of the overwhelming feeling of an impactful chapter coming to a close.
“I still feel sad because the loss is still fresh but I believe I did my best throughout the season and contributed all I could,” senior and Striker, Gabryel Marques said. “I will definitely miss all the memories I’ve made and with my teammates.”
Both strikers contributed a lot to the team when it was needed as they scored shocking goals, helping the team place third in districts or just scoring goals for the joy of it. There were also other members of the team that made it a great season for the Cavs, such as senior center-back Sebastian Para, and sophomore center-back Jason Pirir, including great saves from goalies Diego Perez and Merrit Martinez.
“These past four years playing for CP have been unforgettable and I know I’ll miss it many years from now,” Vera said. “It hurts that this chapter for me has come to an end but I know that this is only the beginning of something great.”
Unfortunately, the 2021-2022 soccer season has come to an end and it is almost time to say goodbye to the seniors. Though, the memories will never be forgotten as they will be remembered by their team and school. A new batch of teammates will come next year and the soccer team is excited about what’s to come next.
“The advice that I leave for future players is to never give up and never quit. ,” Marques said.
