The Cavalier Boys Varsity Soccer team triumphed 4-1 against Oak Ridge last night on the home field. Significant shots were made by senior Aj Vera, senior Gabryel Marques, and freshman Issac Guillory. The Cavs had the most possessions of the ball and the most shots.
Vera who plays striker for CP’s Varsity scored two out of the four goals this game, one being a shot and the 2nd goal a header into the goal from a free-kick made by senior Sebastian Para. Vera is currently coming out of recovery from being injured and is ready more than ever to get back into the game.
“My first game back was the Grand oaks game,” Vera said. “Even though we didn’t win and it being my first game back from not playing at all, I was mostly relieved that my injury wasn’t season-ending. ”
He scored two of the vital goals during the game and it seems like he’s quickly getting used to playing again and is coming back strong as an athlete.
“I was extremely happy to score the two goals, but I was mostly really proud of my team for pushing through the 80 minutes,” Vera said.
Another athlete who also plays striker, Gabryel Marques, made one exhilarating shot into the goal. Since districts have started Marques has scored at least once or more each game; he’s on a streak.
“I really enjoy playing my position, getting to celebrate with the stands and my other teammates after scoring a goal is a lot of fun,” Marques said. “ ”
The players were also asked if they think they could make it far this season and their expectations are pretty high.
“I see us going farther than most people think we will. I trust that we’ll get a good place in districts and advance to playoffs,” said Vera. “I trust my team and I know what we’re capable of, but there’s only one way to find out. ”
Many of the other athletes think they could potentially secure a spot for playoffs. So far the Cavs are 2 for 2, for the first round of districts and their next game is against rivals, the Woodlands, Friday night at 7:30 p.m. on their field. This highly anticipated game is supposed to be one of the most intense, so come support and cheer on the Cavs wearing school colors, you can purchase tickets online at CISD Event Tickets and in person, $2 for students, and $3 for adults.
