Legally Blonde

The Ups and Downs of Harvard Law

Mo Carter

When I saw that the theatre department’s spring musical was THREE HOURS long, I was dragging my feet to go watch my peers try their best. However, I do have to admit when I’m wrong. Legally Blonde is the best production that I have seen grace the College Park stage.

The performances are lively from the leads and ensemble alike. With brilliant accompaniment from the orchestra and band, the musical numbers are well choreographed and feature student voices that exceeded the expectation of high school skill. It is a wonderful ode to the 2000s classic film.

For those unfamiliar with the plot of this iconic story, Elle Woods, the stereotypical California sorority girl, follows the love of her life to Harvard. This switch from a fashion major to law student is a big jump, but one Elle is willing to take for the sake of love. Through some ups and downs, this legal blonde figures out the new world of Harvard Law and herself alike.

This musical made everyone in the audience burst into uncontrollable laughter with their near perfect delivery of each joke. Over 100 students came together to put on this goldmine of excellence. I can’t wait to see what they do next.
