With the football season coming to an end, it’s time for another CP sports team to take the spotlight. The fan favorite, boys basketball, has already started their season. They have started the year on a solid note, going 8-6 with the majority of their losses coming in close games against state ranked teams.

As they return to the court, there are eight returning seniors that continue to prove to be key players. This is a Cavs team poised to go on a run and surprise their opponents.

“We definitely have a lot of returning leadership players this year. We’re able to maintain our style of play in tough games due to having so much experience,” senior Small Forward C.J. Liotta said.

However, to the player’s success, this season will not be surprising, it will be expected. As the players have set lofty expectations for themselves this year.

“Our team’s goal this year is to continue the momentum and success we have from last year. We were undefeated district champs last year and we made it to the second round of playoffs,” senior Guard Nathaniel Murphy said. “So, we are expecting to be district champs again this year and strive for a deeper playoff run than last year”

Like any other sport, most players are anticipating a very unique atmosphere when they face The Woodlands. Unlike other sports though, they will get the opportunity to play The Woodlands twice per season.

“Probably any game versus The Woodlands will be filled with energy from both student sections,” Murphy said.

One familiar name on the team is senior point Guard Ty Buckmon, who you may recognize as the starting quarterback on the varsity football team.

“They are two different sports so there are two different ways to play,” Buckmon said. “The speed of the games are way different. Switching from football or basketball hasn’t alway been easy, but since I’ve been doing it for so long it’s only become easier.”

Their next game will be played in Houston at Alief Elsik High School on Dec. 14th  at 7pm. The district season opens up at 12 am at College Park where they will take on the Wilis Wildcats.
