This passing football season, the varsity football team had its ups and downs. However, the Cavaliers finished their regular season with a respectable 7-3 overall going 3-2 in the district. 

“I feel like we could’ve had a better season, could’ve done some things here or there, but that’s behind us now we are in the playoffs,” senior tigh end Cody Mladenka said. “That being said, we still had one of the better teams in CP history and I’m proud to be a part of that.”

The season started off on a good run, stringing together three non district wins with a combined score of 129-34. Varsity were unable to pull off another year of undefeated non-district football, suffering their first loss of the season at the hands of Cinco Ranch.

“I felt good, felt confident, after winning district last year and returning a lot of players. I felt we had a step ahead of everyone,” senior quarterback Ty Buckmon said.

The District season opened up with a win against Grand Oaks. hat is as far as they would go undefeated in district as they suffered a heartbreaking double overtime loss to Willis in early October, dropping them to 1-1 in district.

“It was disappointing. I felt like we shouldn’t have lost that game. We were prepared, but just made too many mistakes,” kicker Sebatian Para said.

The Cavaliers responded in a big way, dismantling former teammate Marcus Scott and new rivals Conroe 48-14. The momentum from this win carried over to the next game where they were able to dig deep and pull away with a 14-10 win over Oak Ridge to improve their district record to 3-1.

“It was awesome, we came out with a chip on our shoulder and got it done,” Mladenka said.

Unfortunately, they were unable to win what many people viewed as the most important rivalry game against The Woodlands. They started off good going into halftime with a 14-13 lead, but that is about all the positives for this game as the Cavaliers dropped the game 45-13. This was the conclusion of not only their district season, but also their regular season.

“We as a team were all hurt of course, but we knew we didn’t play the way we needed as a collective to beat them and we just got a chip on our shoulder from that loss going into week one of the playoffs” said Buckmon.

This is not the end of the story though, the Cavs hope to win their first playoff game, as they take on Aldine Nimitz in the first round of the 6A DII this Thursday, Nov. 11 at Woodforest home side starting at 7.
