Discovering Coffee Shops

Hannah Dollar

Discovering new coffee shops has become a hobby of mine, even if I have to take a little trip to get to them. I consider myself a modern-day coffee critic in the sense that I can admit that when I say I want some coffee, I mean a creatively flavored iced latte, but one that I can still enjoy the flavor of the espresso. I avoid Starbucks at all costs due to their overpriced, artificial, burnt coffee drinks, my opinion, of course, but one that has driven me to find the most unique local coffee shops in and around the Woodlands. Here are my most recent discoveries:

Artisan Culture

Website

Location

Offering in-house roasted coffee, alternative milk, locally sourced goods, and mushroom powders that boost immunity and focus, Artisan Culture is doing something unique and new to The Woodlands area. They not only support local Artisans and serve fresh coffee, but they provide a place for the community to gather, whether that be for weekly yoga classes and acupuncture sessions, a place to relax in a cozy, quiet environment, or somewhere to host meetings and events. The owner, Heather Brockus, will tell you all about her mission and reason for opening a health and community-focused coffee shop and recommend the notable house special made with cinnamon, Lion’s Mane mushroom powder, and oat milk. If you are not in the coffee mood, I highly recommend the Elderberry Italian Soda or a hot option, the Elderberry Steamer.

Galavant’s Coffee

Website

Location

Be Kind, Drink Coffee, and Roam Free describes this innovative coffee cart’s vibe to the tee. In the heart of downtown Conroe, Galavant’s Coffee boasts consistent espresso shots full of rich flavors that join well with their imaginative homemade syrups. The service is always friendly, and conversation is welcomed by the staff as you watch them skillfully prepare your drink on a crafty cart on wheels, which was custom built by the owner himself, Brad Bailey. With each visit, I cannot bring myself to stray from the delicious Iced Himalayan Caramel latte with oat milk; the flavor agreement between the espresso and syrup is genuinely outmatched.

Perks Beanery

Website

Location

This hidden gem features one of my favorite concepts for a coffee shop – a drive-up coffee stand. For a small trailer, they have a vast selection of flavors and drinks, something they pride themselves on as they are taste and quality loyal. From the coffee classics like Cappuccinos and Americanos to signature drinks such as their Macadamia Cookie latte and Banana Bread latte, they are worth the drive to find them. I have yet to try their non-coffee drinks, but they offer various highly rated teas, milkshakes, boba teas, smoothies, and more.

Common Bond

Website

Location

More well-known for their delicious food, extraordinary pastries, and custom cakes, Common Bond Bistro & Bakery also serves excellent coffee. Their newest location in CityPlace has brought this distinguished Houston cafe closer to The Woodlands area, making it the perfect spot for a brunch outing. The Iced Lavender Latte with honey is my favorite, featuring their housemade lavender syrup; it’s light and refreshing. If you plan to hang around for more than coffee and pastries, you must try the Tomato & Burrata Sandwich or the Avocado & Bacon Toast, and maybe even save room for the mouth-watering French Toast.

Hebrews Coffee Co.

Website

Location

Hebrews Coffeehouse believes in coffee with a purpose, built on three pillars: Christ, Community, and Coffee. They are a family-owned and operated shop that develops meaningful relationships with every customer at their new Magnolia Location. I genuinely feel welcomed when I order my favorite of their drinks – an iced Honey Cinnamon Latte with oat milk. Their espresso’s flavor is smooth and rich, pairing nicely with the sweetness of the honey and cinnamon and the creaminess of the oat milk. They also have the perfect space to study, have a meeting, or just hang out and chat with the community. Definitely one of my favorites.
