Millions of eyes across the country became glued to their television screens on November 3rd. Little did everyone know that the anticipated results of who would become the next president of the United States would remain unknown going late into the night. 

And for the next 3 days. 

Early Friday morning, Joe Biden was declared president-elect after securing the state of Pennsylvania according to multiple news programs. However, more than a week after the election, President Donald Trump has yet to concede and has instead insisted on recounts coast to coast. The Trump administration has prompted suspicion of unfair voting practices and believes that the race was too close to call in battleground states. In the meantime, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have already begun selecting members for the cabinet and creating a strategy to combat the Coronavirus. What does this imply for our country in the coming weeks? 

If there is no evidence found of election fraud, Joe Biden will be officially declared president once all states have certified their votes. Battleground states, such as Arizona and Wisconsin, have until early December to accomplish this. In an effort to investigate election fraud, President Trump has filed multiple lawsuits in the states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nevada. The state of Georgia began its recount process this week. 

The likelihood of flipping the projected election results is slim, but, in a race that was so close, is not impossible. Republican states such as Texas are offering a monetary reward for any voters that come forward with evidence of fraud at the polls in an effort to defeat Joe Biden. Stakes are extremely high for both parties as the fate of the Senate remains unknown until January 5th when the Georgia runoff occurs.  

Whichever candidate is officially announced as the winner in mid-December will take office on January 20th. Their initial task will be to work to limit Covid-19 infections in the United States as cases continue to soar. Actions regarding the economy, racial justice, immigration, and the Affordable Health Care Act are expected to be performed as well regardless of who takes office. Only time will tell for Americans as they continue to anxiously await the official results of the 2020 Presidential Election.
